OLD VINE CAFÉ – Breakfast and Brunch is Served

An ecliptic take on your normal brunch café this place serves it up with spice and a twist of a winery as if you were in wine country.  Located at the Camp in Costa Mesa, California this place may have a 30 minute wait on the weekends but it is well worth it.

Breakfast served from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.  I recommend you come after 1:30 pm on the weekend for a shorter wait time.  The menu can get pricy but it worth the price to treat your self once and while.

The breakfast menu consists of sweet and savory dishes and a little bit of southern flare.  Pumpkin Pecan French Toast Freshly Baked & garnished with Whipped Cream packs on the calories to your waist line but it is definitely worth the calories. 

Vegetarian Omelet with Zucchini, Eggplant, Shitake Mushrooms, Manchego, Queso Fresco Pecorino & Basil Pesto is fresh and all omelets are made to order.  The Basil Pesto is one of the best I have had in a long time.  There is some secret ingredient that wants you to have more to the extent that it becomes an addiction. 

 

Rabbit Mole is made with Braised Rabbit, 2 Eggs, Pasilla & Cashew Mole, Fresh-Baked Corn Bread.  Although I did not partake in the Rabbit it seemed to be popular that particular Saturday with the patrons.  I did partake in the family favorite Open Faced Fresh Biscuit, Chicken Sausage, Scrambled Eggs, Chipotle Gravy & Queso Fresco with Potatoes.  Let’s just say that I liked the plate clean.  The Chipotle Gravy was spicy but not to the extent that it was inedible.  It was just that good. The Potatoes were roasted with onions and tender but not over cooked.

If you are looking for something light for lunch the Old Vine Salad is made with Seasonal Greens with Grape Tomatoes, Kalamata Olives, Shaved Pecorino & Citrus Vinaigrette.  It was fabulous and fresh tasting.  The Citrus Vinaigrette was homemade and tasty not bitter.

The sandwiches do have an upscale twist. The Torta de Lingua is Tender Slow Cooked Beef Tongue, Tomatillo Salsa, Pickled Serrano Chile & Pepper Jack Cheese.  Or you can just go old school with Ham & Cheddar sandwich. 

For dinner there are several tasting menus to choose from that including vegetarian selections.  But you always have the option of al la carte.  Dinner is not served Sunday and Monday nights. I prefer the Old Vine Café for brunch but dinner is quaint.  They serve an excellent wine selection so go ahead and indulge yourself.  

Service is excellent and the staff helpful.  There can be a wait but it is worth it.  As this place can get pricy I recommend it for a treat.  The food is fresh and prepared to order not made a head of time.  This place rates 3.5 Forks Up due to price. I recommend that you give it try.
